Bavaria is the largest and oldest state in Germany. In lieu of its history and the heritage linked to the state, Bavaria is still closely linked with German and European culture. The language spoken in Bavaria is German, but its historical origin has still kept it as a special dialect that is spoken only in Bavaria. In fact several German dialects are spoken in Bavaria. In Upper and Lower Bavaria Bavarian is the main dialect.

You don’t have to learn Bavarian German if you are in Munich, because it is so cosmopolitan. Also, Southern Bavaria is a very important tourist region in Germany. But every Bavarian speaks only Bavarian German at home, and that is the language that you will hear when you are in Bavaria.

Speak! Bavarian

You can learn Bavarian German through a course for beginners called Speak! Bavarian. This course teaches you the basics of the Bavarian language. . It is specially designed for effective language learning. The software includes Bavarian grammar, Bavarian vocabulary and also a Bavarian dictionary containing thousands of words and phrases.

You can access the functions of the software just with a single click from the main screen. There is no need for an instruction manual. The software is very easy to use and can be used even by people who have limited computer skills.

Pronunciation

When you learn Bavarian German, the Bavarian pronunciation is important, because it is different from the regular German pronunciation. You can listen to Bavarian sentences in authentic situations and the quality is very clear. In the program you will see the word written on the screen and then hear it. When there is a waveform on the screen, it indicates that you have to repeat what you have just heard. Your voice is recorded and you can then compare your voice to check how good and correct your pronunciation is. This feature is possible by using voice recognition.

Grammar

In each lesson there is a grammar explanation which is very clear and helps you to understand the material for the lesson. There is an abundance of grammar exercises and vocabulary exercises to help you to learn Bavarian German. In each lesson it is possible to call the Bavarian Dictionary if you are looking for the meaning of a word.

Language Schools

There are good language schools in Lindau and Regensburg where you can learn German, but if you want to learn Bavarian German, you can only learn it through the internet or through short courses sometimes available at small language institutes in Bavaria. Some tourists or groups of children who want to explore Bavaria like to learn Bavarian German so that they can converse in the Bavarian dialect and can then communicate with every Bavarian in their own language.

If you want to learn to speak German, it may seem like an insurmountable goal. It can be hard to learn a foreign language, and German is no different. But there are quite a few simple things that will help you learn German. Let’s take a look at the major things you should be doing, and see why and how they are useful as you learn to speak German.

The Keys To Learning A Foreign Language

First, listen to German. Get your ear used to the sounds. Listen to books on tape, or your class lessons in German. Hear it over and over, so your ear becomes accustomed to the intonations and phrasing. It will help you learn German.

Speak German. You may feel silly at first, because your mouth won’t be accustomed to making those sounds, but really, who cares? Only if you say the words aloud can you be sure you’re making them the way you think you are. It’s best if you are around people who can help you correct the sounds as you learn, but practicing alone is also valuable.

Read in German both your textbook and other materials. If you can get your hands on children’s picture books in German, terrific! That is a great way to get used to seeing the written language, and in a format you are more able to understand as you are learning. If you can’t find a picture book, find something else. Go to German websites, or websites that are designed to help you learn German. There are many of them, and quite a few of them are totally free.

Sing in German. Yes, sing! Singing can often help a person form words that are tricky when spoken, but for some reason the breath control in singing can help, the same way a person who struggles with stuttering can often sing with no stuttering problem at all. Find some German folk songs or lullabies and sing along.

Play in German! Games are a great way to learn German without stress. Whether a paper and pencil game, or an interactive game in German, or a game over the computer, playing is a way to reinforce the information you’re learning. Games are particularly helpful for things like practicing the names of colors, or numbers, or days of the week…things where the repetition can get boring without some type of game to make things more unpredictable and fun. Your teacher will likely have you play in class but there are also resources for playing on the internet. Many of the games on the internet are absolutely free, and they are a way to play that works well for today’s technologically savvy students.

Think in German. The quicker you can learn to think in German, the easier it will be for you to segue into the German language. So when you think, think in German.

Children are the perfect example of unlimited potential. Their ability to learn is almost instinctive. They utilize every faculty available to them and engage every sense they have when learning about the world around them. They absorb with great interest the object or sound that has caught their attention, and thus their ability to learn is incredible.

When learning to speak their mother tongues at a young age, children are exposed daily to the sounds their parents make that eventually culminate in developed language. There are specific learn language audios available for any language that one might want to learn. In the instance of German, one would use learn German audio. In the instance of French, the same would apply.

The learn German audio would be best as we are responsive to slight clicks and sounds in language that are definitive of those particular languages. The learn German audio comes in a 6 part series of learning audios, with the lesson one being the basic language and lesson 6 the more advanced lessons. Many people have testified that learn German audio has produced amazing results in the least amount of time and that learn German audio is very clear and precise. The learn German audio programme is also endorsed by the Munich University as one of the best audio language programmes on the market today.

In a comparison to learning French now, learn German audio came out as the favorite for outlay, design and content. There is talk of a follow up series to learn German audio but that will be sometime in the near future. Another great feature of learn German audio is its affordability, which means it gets to reach a wider target audience. With more people listening to learn German audio we would soon have quite a few people fluent in the language. Perhaps if more attention to detail was put into other learning audios, like they do in the learn German audio, we would find many more people broadening their language skills and communication on the whole would be improving.

Why Choose Audio-A Look At The Benefits Of Audio Learning

So what’s the big deal about choosing to learn from audio programmes such as learn German audio. Well that’s a very important question that deserves an equally important answer. Language is a spoken word, therefore reading to learn a language might result in some learning but nothing that one can utilize to convincingly have a conversation. Language is audible and such its teaching should be in the form of audio so that the brain and the mind can retain what it has learned.

That is until you start to learn German idioms, which make up a major part of the language.

This is also where you see a side of them that after you have studied and hopefully understood their meaning, will not disbelieve their reputation as being prim and proper. These German idioms are continuously growing and when it is literally translated into English it will in most cases leave a smile on your dial or occasionally throw you into a fit of laughter. To learn German idioms is not difficult at all if you understand a little basic German. The catch is to know how to use it if you are a guest in Germany or you may end up in hot water!

Take for instance the expression ‘Ein schlag uns Wasser’. Literally meaning ‘a blow in the water’ and actually means ‘a flop’. Do not use this on a lady whose cake has flopped. You might end up with a blow on the head. Rather use it to describe a major occasion or unsuccessful event. ‘Halo- und Beinbruch’ literally means ‘break neck and leg’. If you want to learn German idioms you have to remember to use both and not just ‘leg’ as in English. Seems like the Germans have taken out insurance on this one. ‘Einen sprung in der Schussel haben’ literally meaning ‘to have a crack in the bowl’ and actually refers to someone who is slightly insane.

Phrases

Be very careful how to use this phrase in the company of your German hostess if you have spotted a crack in her bowl. To learn German idioms can be of vital importance. ‘Den Loffel abgeben’ literally means ‘to give back the spoon’ and actually means to pass away. Here I will advise you to be cautious. Do not use this if you have come across a dead human body. It may under the circumstances sound crude. Avoid using the phrase altogether to insure good relationships, which is another reason why you must learn German idioms.

The German language is a matter of having to learn German idioms or else…

The language is rich in idiomatic expressions. The Germans are quite a hilarious bunch. It is just a matter of getting the phrase right in the proper context.

There is an old adage that says that in order to understand someone you need to walk in his or her footsteps. Now be that as it may, what happens if you can’t understand the person because a language barrier exists? You might find yourself walking in totally the wrong direction. If one wanted to learn, oh I don’t know, how to fix a car, one would go to a mechanic. The same for shoe mending, one would go to a shoemaker. So what if we wanted to learn a new language, German for example. We would go and learn German in Germany.

Some of you might ask why learn German in Germany when you can just as well get your hands on a great learn German audio? That is a question I asked myself and this is the answer that I came up with it. Audios are great, they really are, but there is no substitute for experience. To learn German in Germany is to have firsthand experience of the culture and lifestyle and the language would make so much more sense.

Everyone should want to learn German in Germany, just as a martial arts student would want to go to the country of his instructor’s birth to better understand the art he is learning. In essence to learn German in Germany would be the equivalent of using your lungs to breathe. The right tool for the right job makes for a job well done. And to be quite frank, should one go and learn German in Germany there is always the added benefit of having a great travel experience and seeing new places. To learn German in Germany is to enjoy an entire experience.

One does learn the language, but one takes in the history, the sites, and the architecture. No my friends, to learn German in Germany is more than a language learning exercise, it is to learn about a people who have had some pretty amazing victories and losses in their times, but remain human beings nonetheless. Like the rest of us. My advice: learn German in Germany, and change your life, not just your accent.

So What Will You Need For Your Trip?

Now that you have decide to go and learn German in Germany, let’s look at the itinerary you would need for you trip. Remember the reason for this trip is to learn German in Germany but to also seize the experience and make the most of it. So firstly you will need your most enthusiastic, positive attitude. This is not going to be easy. It’s quite testing to learn German over audio let alone learn German in Germany. Then you need to pack your handy cam to capture the memories. Visa and passport, and we’re off.

How To Learn The Names Of Clothes In German!

It’s difficult! It is very, very difficult to learn the names of clothes in German. If you understand either Afrikaans or Dutch, the process of how to learn the names of clothes in German would be so much easier. You could luckily have a German friend, which would help. You could Google translate and find out the words. There is the Encarta dictionary that would translate any word you have into nearly any language, not only German, just for you.

The easiest article to remember when you have to learn the name of clothes in German is jeans; luckily it stays the same for you. We all love jeans, especially the Levi’s. They are just as hardwearing as the Germans are themselves, even though they weren’t originated there, but in Mexico.

Be Practical

You don’t want to be sticking postit notes on all your pieces of clothing just to learn the names of clothes in German. You would definitely be getting the names wrong, as you might just be the type of person who doesn’t keep their wardrobes meticulously tidy. Use a tiny safety pin to secure the name tag, or if your article still has a name tag on it, you could use a marker pen for clothing and put the translated name on there!

If you were a big person, don’t put the fact that it is large or super large on it; it would waste a lot of space, just the individual article name. What other ways you keep asking! Hell knows! Not everyone wants to learn German let alone learn the names of clothes in German.

Surely when you don’t find the article in the shop, you might just have thought one step ahead and kept a English to German translation pocket dictionary with you when you decided to go visit the country. That could prove to be the simplest way. You wouldn’t need then to learn the names of clothes in German; surely the brand names wouldn’t change. Christian Dior would still be Christian Dior, and that is French. What a mission it would be to translate words like Versace, and that is Italian. Who cares about the brand name translated, as it would lose its power?

Now unless you are going to Germany to become a clothing designer or work in a German clothing factory, it could prove worthwhile learning the names of clothes in German, otherwise not. Don’t even bother, just remember your translation dictionary!

The best way to learn German slang is obviously to hang about with Germans, especially the young. If you can go to Germany or another German-speaking country and immerse yourself in the culture, that is best.

Exchange programmes of all kinds, which land you in a German-speaking country, will help you pick up the language and its slang in relatively no time, even if you have no primary knowledge of the language. Nobody ever learns a language’s slang better or faster than by being surrounded by and hearing it spoken in every day life and in genuine, spontaneous situations.

We have all learned other languages in the classroom, but this tends to be the language in its formal clothes the very ‘proper’ ways of speaking it. You will not learn German slang most effectively if only speaking it in a formal classroom situation. You may be taught some slang expressions, but to keep up-to-date and learn to use the slang expressions naturally, it is best to hear slang used by German speakers and so pick it up that way.

Complimentary Ways To Learn German Slang

Other helpful ways to learn German slang are to listen to German pop music, watch German programmes and films, and read popular German fiction and magazines. Also keep your eyes open to read posters and billboards and watch the TV ads advertisements often make use of slang in trying to appeal to potential consumers. Popular culture will help you to learn German slang in its most current form.

This said, there is nothing stopping you from beginning to acquire or augmenting your knowledge of German slang by using a German phrase book, buying an audio CD of the language, listening to a German Podcast or visiting a German language learning site on the internet. One can even buy dictionaries devoted to German slang entirely! There are opportunities to speak online with German speakers, and thus learn German slang through communicating with a native speaker. Some people even look for a penpal and increase their understanding of slang through their communications.

Teaching materials are a nice way to learn German slang if you are a bookish person, as they often provide you with more background and sometimes explanations behind the slang. If you have a pressing reason for needing to learn German, including its colloquialisms and slang, then an extra aid like a phrase dictionary would be an asset.
